Frances Buck "Bucky" Herbert
"Bucky" moved from New Bern when she was 13 years old with her parents, Lucile Smith Buck and Theodor Allen Buck.
They lived on 4th street in Weldon before moving to Longstreet Road where she lived for many years until she and her husband Billy Herbert, moved to High Point NC to be closer to his family.
Bucky went to public school in Weldon and attended Women's College (now UNCG) to study business. She worked for various companies including her father's business at Weldon Iron Works to her final job with CADA in Halifax County.
She was an avid outdoors person who loved to hunt and fish with her father. She was a beach person and spent much time at Atlantic Beach and later with Billy at Emerald Isle. She loved the birds, the ocean and surf casting at twilight.
Although she had no biological children, she was always mothering somebody. She loved kids, from infants to Youth. She "adopted" all of her friend's children and rejoiced to claim Billy's children, as her own. They spent many happy hours with Bucky and Billy at their home on Roanoke Rapids Lake swimming, fishing and just having fun together.
She was a social person and had many friends. She was very dedicated to Weldon United Methodist Church. She was a servant to her Church, from singing in the Choir to running the youth group. She was also a civil servant serving on boards not only in the church, but in the greater community.
Bucky loved to socialize and could plan a party with the best of them. No telling how many weddings she directed. She also hosted some serious bridge games with a large group of ladies! And they remained good friends.
She was a dear and caring person; caring for her Mom and Dad, her beloved pets, her friends, her "baby's", her church and of course the love of her life, Billy Herbert.
"Bucky" is survived by her daughters, Pamela H. Gregory and her husband, Mark of Greensboro, Karen H. Mueller and her husband, Thomas of Greensboro, Lori H. Bagwell and her husband, Woody of Winterville; her son, William "Bill" Herbert of Portsmouth, VA; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren; her cousin, Jane Bahor and her husband, Ed of Durham.
There are many of us who will miss her kindness, intelligence, humor and most of all, her compassion for all creatures, human or otherwise, imperfect or flawed, black white or otherwise: If God put them in her path, she responded with love.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019, in the Chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Sue Owens officiating.
Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC.
The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Send a Condolence
